Picking a fence
Only if it is built wrong for the grade. A fence can step down a hill in level sections or rack to follow the slope. Which one fits depends on the material and how steep it is. We check the grade at the estimate.
Stepped means each section is level and the next one drops down, like stairs. It looks clean with panels, but on a steep slope it leaves a wedge of open space under each section. Racked means the rails follow the slope and the pickets stay plumb, so the bottom stays close to the ground the whole way. Board on board wood and chain link rack well. Some vinyl panels can only rack so far before they bind.
Lots around Crossville are rarely flat. We check the grade along the whole line, not just at the corners, and note where the ground dips. Where a gap cannot be avoided, we can add a bottom board or grade the soil so nothing small gets under.
A gate needs a level spot to swing. On a slope that may mean a short level section at the gate, or a gate that swings uphill. We plan it so the gate clears the ground and still latches without a fight.
