Which fence is the most dog proof?

Match the fence to the dog

• Diggers: we keep the gap at the bottom small and can run a buried board or wire along the bottom rail.
• Climbers and jumpers: 6 foot, with the rails facing out or a solid face. A husky or a big shepherd will use rails on its side like a ladder.
• Fence fighters: solid wood or vinyl privacy. If they cannot see the dog next door, most of them settle down.
• Small dogs: watch the picket spacing and the gap under gates. Gates are where they get out.

It keeps most dogs in and lets them see out, which some dogs like. It does not stop a determined climber, and it does nothing about barking at everything that walks by. If the barking is the problem, go solid.

Sloped yards

This is where dogs get out. A stepped fence on a hill leaves wedge shaped gaps at the bottom of each section. We can rack the fence to follow the grade or fill the gaps so nothing slides under. Bring it up at the estimate and we will look at the low spots together.
